Even twee i-pad grappen. Ik snap serieus niet waarom mensen dat ding zo graag willen hebben. Wacht liever de de HP slate, dan heb je tenminste USB poorten en een echt besturingsysteem.

Procrastinatie

Vandaag kwam ik een leuke column tegen op lifehacking.nl. Deze gaat over het begrip procrastinatie, iets waar ik zelf ook last van heb.

Procrastinatie is het verschijnsel dat je de hele dag bezig bent met niks. Constant je email checken, nu.nl refreshen, en je hele serie loze websites controleren.

Vanavond probeerden we Joran het concept ‘achternaam’ bij te brengen.

Na uitgelegd te hebben dat zijn voornaam Joran is en zijn achternaam Huizenga, wist hij dit prima te herhalen.

Uiteraard gingen we daarna ook papa langs, en ja papa heet ook Huizenga van de achternaam.
En mama heet Huizenga. En Michan ook.

Daarop loopt Joran naar Michan en begint heel aandachtig naar de rug van Michan te kijken. Waarop hij ons wist te melden dat hij de huizenga inderdaad zag zitten.

2Gb iSCSI traffic to a Equallogic PS6000

It shows a disk benchmark to an iSCSI disk supplied by a Equallogic SAN. I have two 1Gb nics connected to the san. The multipath software supplied by Equallogic is making sure that both network connections are used to their max. A wopping 234MB/sec is the result. A curious thing to note is that the write speed is consistently higher than the read speed. I think that this has to do with the cache in the controller that is set to write back. This means that the controller inside the Equallogic tells the client that data is stored on disk, while it is only written inside the cache memory. Thus: there is no delay from the disk needing to finish its write action.

On the other hand: the read action is slower, because the data really needs to come from the disks. Cache in this situation only helps you if there are subsequent reads of the same datablocks.
